Learn more about the benefits of Braided Pig Pizzle dog treats below.
“Are there pork bully sticks?”, “What is a pig bully stick? I thought bully sticks were beef?”, and “What are good alternatives to bully sticks?” are questions that often come up for dog owners that are looking for:
- A dog treat for dogs that are allergic to beef
- A dog treat with low calories
- A dog treat for small dogs
- A new or different all-natural dog treat
Regardless of the reason that applies or doesn’t apply to you, this article will explain the benefits and answer FAQs about Pig Pizzle.
In explaining the benefits of Braided Pork Pizzle, it’s often best to start with the basics: what they are, what they’re made from, and how they’re made.
What are Pig Bully Sticks / Pork Bully Sticks?
The answer to this question would technically be that they don’t exist.
“What do you mean they don’t exist? I’ve seen them!”
Yes and no. “Bully Sticks” are beef pizzle, meaning that a “Pig” or “Pork” Bully Stick would technically be a beef and pig pizzle combination. This is not something we have seen in nature and since we pride ourselves on all-natural Bully Sticks and Pig Pizzle Braids, we do not sell those.
“But then why do people call them ‘Pig Bully Sticks’?”
Great question! If we said “Pig Pizzle Stick”, would you be completely on board with the idea? Many dog owners know about Bully Sticks and since the idea between them and Pig Pizzle Sticks are the same, it’s a much easier way to explain without having to explain, ya know? Our point is, that when you see “Pork Bully Sticks” or “Pig Bully Sticks”, they are simply the pig version of Bully Sticks.
What are Braided Pig Pizzle Sticks Made of?
Our Braided Pig Pizzle Sticks are a single-ingredient dog chew made completely from pork muscle. They’re made from three all natural pork pizzles* that are hand-braided and slow roasted to lock in the delicious flavor. Since they are made from an all-natural ingredient (pork muscle), they are completely digestible. They’re the best option for any pet owner looking for a 100% pork dog treat.
*Pork Pizzle is the manufacturer’s term for dried pork penis.
How are Pig Pizzle Sticks Made?
To make Braided Pig Pizzle, the process begins with three separate straight pork pizzle sticks that are cleaned, vertically hung, and dried. They are then braided together and slow-roasted to bring out the pork flavor that your dog will love. Our Braided Pig Pizzle Sticks are prepared without the use of any artificial preservatives, unhealthy additives, or chemicals. Their shelf life is still 36-months (3 years!), without the use of unnecessary additives.
Are Pig Pizzles Safe For Dogs?
Braided Pork Pizzle Sticks are made from 100% pork muscle, which means that they are 100% digestible! Not all dog treats can make this claim, which is why this is important to mention. What does “100% digestible” mean? It means that the Braided Pig Pizzle Stick will not cause blockages in your dog’s stomach since the treat will be completely broken down as it makes its way through the digestive tract*. Your dog will have an easier time passing the treat, leaving you with peace of mind.
*As with any treat, we always recommend that you supervise your pet.
Are there Odor Free Pig Pizzle Sticks for dogs?
As a company, we’ve taken the stance that natural odor free pig pizzle sticks aren’t possible without the use of harsh chemicals. These dog chews are made from animal body parts and will always have some sort of smell. In our experience, the only way to entirely remove the smell would be to treat them with harsh chemicals, which we are unwilling to do. To reduce odor, we make sure to use the highest quality ingredients that are thoroughly cleaned and fully baked. This leaves our Braided Pig Pizzle Sticks “low odor” and completely natural!

Benefits of Pig Pizzle Sticks:
Variety of Lengths
Our Braided Pig Pizzle comes in a 6 inch and 9 inch braid. The different sizes allow you to find one that’s perfect for your dog. Depending on your particular dog and your preference, you can give your dog a smaller size to finish in one sitting or a longer one that can be chewed for a period of time and saved for later.
Great Treat for Dogs Allergic to Beef
It’s unfortunate, but it is possible for dogs to be allergic to beef. When that’s the case, you don’t want your dog missing out on tasty treats, and that’s where pork comes in. Our Braided Pig Pizzle Sticks are a great Bully Stick replacement for the dog that’s allergic to beef. They’re single-ingredient, all-natural chews made 100% from pig muscle, so you don’t have to worry about that beef allergy.
We also have a variety of other all-natural pork chews if you want to add some treat variety:
- Pig Skin Dog Treats – A crunchy, puffy treat that is 100% digestible.
- Pig Ears – Made in the USA and oven baked to lock in the best flavor.
- Pig Snouts – Helps aid dental health as your dog chews.
- Puffed Sow Pig Ears – A light, crunchy, made in the USA treat that gently cleans as your dog chews.
- Sliced Pig Ears – Tasty bite-size treats that are 100% digestible and made in the USA.
Safe for All Life Stages
Pork Pizzle is ideal for small dogs, but what about puppies, adult, or older dogs? Similar to Bully Sticks, Pig Pizzle can be enjoyed by puppies, adults, and senior dogs.
Source of High Protein and Low Fat
Braided Pig Pizzle is made from 100% pork muscle, but the tasty, slow roasted flavor isn’t the only benefit to that. It’s a completely natural pork dog treat that is very high in protein, but low in fat. The combination of this fact and their low caloric value might make it tempting to feed your dog endless Pig Pizzle sticks to keep them busy, but we do not recommend that. Your dog may love the idea, but you must resist those puppy dog eyes. Braided Pig Pizzle is meant to be given in moderation as a treat, not as a meal replacement.
100% Digestible Dog Chew
All of our Braided Pig Pizzles are made from three slow-roasted pork pizzles that have been braided together. Since they’re only made with one all-natural ingredient, they can be broken down entirely in your dog’s stomach. Giving your dog a 100% digestible chew means that you don’t have to worry about Braided Pig Pizzle sticks causing a blockage in your dog’s stomach.
Being pet owners, just like you, we think that the phrase “you are what you eat” applies to every member of our family and fur family. It’s important that we all eat natural and healthy foods, not just the humans. It is for this reason that we only use high quality pig pizzle. We make sure that “premium” and “natural” aren’t empty buzzwords being thrown around, they mean something when it comes to what we sell for your pet.
There Is No “One Size Fits All”
No dog is quite like the other, each has their own chew preference. Some dogs will prefer chewing on a Braided Pig Pizzle, while others may prefer a Bully Stick. Think about your dog’s past behavior when choosing the right chew. Do they often mistake your shoes for chew toys? Does a bone take them so long to finish that they lose interest in it? It’s best to determine your dog’s chew style in order to pick the perfect chew for them.
